Wellens Syndrome is a condition that indicates a critical narrowing of the proximal left anterior descending (LAD) artery. It is considered a pre-infarction state, meaning that patients with this syndrome are at high risk of developing a large anterior myocardial infarction (MI) if not treated promptly. Wellens syndrome is a pre-infarct stage of coronary syndrome and a clinical condition associated with left descending proximal anterior artery stenosis. Diagnostic criteria for Wellens syndrome include clinical history, ECG changes, and laboratory results. Wellen’s syndrome, also called LAD coronary syndrome or widow maker, was first described in 1982 by de Zwaan et al 1 in a subgroup of patients with unstable angina during a pain-free period. Background Wellens syndrome complicates acute coronary syndrome and, if unmanaged, can lead to immanent myocardial infarction. This study aimed towards determining the prevalence of Wellens syndrome among acute coronary syndrome patients while focusing on both types and identifying the associated risk factors, then exploring the variation in affected coronary arteries within patients fulfilling Wellens syndrome criteria.
