Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (transl. Victory Party of Tamilakam; abbr. TVK ) is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu and the union territory of Puducherry. It was founded on 2 February 2024 by actor-turned-politician Vijay , who became its president. The headquarters of the party is in Chennai. [4][5] A month after the tragic Karur stampede claimed 41 lives, TVK chief Vijay is set to hold a closed-door meeting with the victims' families in Mahabalipuram today. According to party sources, the meeting, organised at a hotel, will be closed to both media and party members, highlighting the sensitive nature of the discussions. According to sources, TVK has booked 50 rooms at the hotel to allow the actor-politician to personally meet the grieving families, who will travel to the venue on a bus. Actor-politician Vijay will address TVK ’s General Council in Mamallapuram today, marking his first public statement since the Karur stampede that killed 41 people. The meeting will chart the party’s roadmap for the 2026 Assembly elections.
