Tughlaqabad Fort was built in 1321, by Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, the very first ruler of the Tughlaq dynasty. Tughlaq’s name was Ghazi Malik, and he started out as a governor under the rule of Alauddin Khalji. According to popular legend, when Mubarak Khalji succeeded his father’s throne, Ghazi Malik suggested that he build a fortified city during his rule. The village is named after Ghiyas-ud-din Tughlaq and is located in the shadows of the 700-year-old ruins of Tughlaqabad Fort.
