The teak comes under the family Lamiaceae. This wood is widely used for boats, construction, veneer, furniture, etc. Teak is a large deciduous tree up to 40 m (131 ft) tall with grey to greyish-brown branches, known for its high-quality wood. Its leaves are ovate-elliptic to ovate, 15–45 cm (5.9–17.7 in) long by 8–23 cm (3.1–9.1 in) wide, and are held on robust petioles which are 2–4 cm (0.8–1.6 in) long. Teak (Tectona grandis) is one of the premier hardwood timber species in the world and a symbol of prosperity. But in India, teak planting, characterised by its high costs and relatively meager returns, has contributed to a sense of reluctance among farmers to engage in tree plantation initiatives.
