Yes, she is Tessy Thomas, the legendary “ Missile Woman of India ”; designer of Agni – III, Agni – IV, and Agni – V ballistic missiles. , Her only son’s name is Tejas, she named him after the fighter jet designed in India by Indian technology. The self-made missile engineer rose from humble beginnings in Kerala and managed to break out of the glass ceiling that plagued other women in her field. While Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is known as Missile Man of India , very few people know that India also has a Missile Woman . Yes, you heard it right and she is no other than senior Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) scientist Dr Tessy Thomas. She has a remarkable journey from a small village in Kerala to becoming a leading scientist and Director General Aeronautical Systems at the DRDO and a key contributor to Indias missile program. Dr. Tessy Thomas Dr. Tessy Thomas , Distinguished Scientist, Director General Aeronautical Systems obtained her BTech in Electrical Engineering from Calicut University in 1985 and ME in Guided Missiles from Institute of Armament Technology (now Defence Institute of Advanced Technology), Pune in 1986 and PhD in Missile Guidance from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad in 2014.
