Contribution of Kheda and Kheda Satyagraha : The Kheda campaign helped Satyagraha develop itself strongly in Gujarat. In the future course of the nationalist movement, villages in Kheda became the strong support base of the nationalist movement. The Kheda Satyagraha marks the beginning of an awakening among the peasants of Gujarat, the beginning of their true political education. The lesson became firmly impressed on the public mind that the salvation of the people depends upon themselves, upon the capacity for suffering and sacrifice. Kheda Satyagraha was started by Mahatma Gandhi. Mahatma Gandhi is credited with starting the first Non-Cooperation Movement with the Kheda Satyagraha in 1918.
