In this connection, Dr. Babu Jagjivan Ram Study and Research Center was established on 5th April 2016 in Vijayanagara Sri Krishnadevaraya University, Ballari. The Centre is engaged in studies and research pertaining to Babu Jagjivan Ram’s life, works and his illustrious political career, speeches and contribution to the development of the nation. Abstract- Babu Jagjivan Ram, a towering figure in Indian politics, is celebrated for his relentless pursuit of social justice and empowerment of marginalized communities. As a Dalit leader, he championed the cause of equality, inclusion, and the eradication of caste-based discrimination. Jagjivan Ram was an Indian politician, government official, and longtime leading spokesman for the Dalits (formerly untouchables; officially called Scheduled Castes), a low-caste Hindu social class in India. He served in the Lok Sabha (lower chamber of the Indian parliament) for more than 40 years. This article examines the life and legacy of Babu Jagjivan Ram, a Dalit leader and social reformer who played a key role in India's decolonization movement and post-independence development. It highlights his contributions to the freedom struggle, the Green Revolution, the Indo-Pak war, and the fight against caste discrimination.
