Bose Institute was set up in 1917 by Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose (1858 - 1937), the founder of modern science in the Indian subcontinent. It is Asia's first modern research centre devoted to interdisciplinary research and bears a century old tradition of research excellence. Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose [1] (/ boʊs /; [2] IPA: [d͡ʒɔɡod̪iʃ t͡ʃɔn̪d̪ro boʃu]; 30 November 1858 – 23 November 1937) [3] was a polymath with interests in biology, physics and writing science fiction. [4] Jagdish Chandra Bose was as Indian polymath whose research has extensively contributed to the fields of botany, physics and radio science. He is credited to have laid the foundations of experimental science in India and was a pioneer in the area of microwave optics technology. As the nation commemorates ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, marking the 75-year of its Independence, there will never be a better time to remember the great scientist and luminary – Sir Jagadish Chandra Bose – on his birth anniversary on 30th November.
