Understand the fundamental differences between secondary and high school education, including curriculum structure, teaching focus, and student development A high school is a secondary school, where teenagers are educated before starting college or getting jobs. Most high schools have four numbered grades, from ninth to twelfth. A secondary school, high school, or senior school, is an institution that provides secondary education. Some secondary schools provide both lower secondary education and upper secondary education, i.e., both levels 2 and 3 of the ISCED scale, but these can also be provided in separate schools. There may be other variations in the provision: for example, children in Australia, Hong Kong, and Spain change from the primary to secondary systems a year later at the age of 12, with the ISCED's ... a secondary school that usually includes grades 10, 11, and 12, and sometimes grade 9 (and occasionally, esp. formerly, grades 7 and 8), and that offers academic or vocational subjects
