Ailurophile refers specifically to cat cats, not loose or spiteful women or cool jazz musicians. That doesn't mean we cannot use it playfully: "Well, I find her a bit catty and I'm not an ailurophile." I suppose dogs might be said to be ailurophiles in the the strictest sense of the word. However, any dog that runs away from cats, certainly suffers from ailurophobia. But the English word ailurophile does not descend from Egyptian; rather, it comes from a combination of the Greek word ailouros, which means "cat," and the suffix -phile, meaning "lover." Here are 50 Philes and their love: Ailurophile: (n.) a person who likes cats, a cat lover. Anthophile: (n.) a lover of flower; someone who appreciates flowers. Arctophile: (n.) a person who collects or is very fond of teddy bears. Astrophile: (n.) a person who loves stars, astronomy. Autophile: (n.) a person who loves solitude, being alone. An ailurophile absolutely adores felines. Having beloved cats of your own, volunteering at a cat shelter, wearing cute cat sweatshirts, or otherwise expressing your appreciation for cats all make you an official ailurophile.
