Rameshwaram Temple, officially known as the Arulmigu Ramanathaswamy Temple, is one of the prominent pilgrimage sites of South India, dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva. It is located on the Rameswaram island in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. This temple is o ne of the 275 Paadal Petra Sthalams, the sacred sites glorified by the Nayanars (Shaivite poet-saints), Appar, Sundarar, and Sambandar, with their songs. Ramanathaswamy Temple (Rāmanātasvāmi Kōyil) is a Hindu temple dedicated to the Hindu god Shiva located on Rameswaram island in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. It is one of the twelve Jyotirlinga temples. Jyotirlingas are sacred shrines of Lord Shiva; it is believed that Lord Shiva himself visited these places and hence they have a special place in the hearts of devotees. There are 12 of them in India. Jyotirlinga means ‘column or pillar of light’. The ‘stambha’ symbol represents that there is no beginning or end. Rameshwaram Temple is the most famous Jyotirlinga of Shiv in Tamil Nadu located in the Rameshwaram small town. This place is very prominent for Hindu devotees. Because. this place holds the significance of the four sacred Char Dhams or places of worship that every Hindu should visit at least once.
