I have a very vague idea about the term chapri . I'm going to college this year and i heard that there are quite a lot of chapris at my backup college so how can I identify them? A guy wearing a gully boy t-shirt, blonde hair with his sides shaved, a shitty motorcycle with obnoxiously loud exhaust, fake shoes (which is a must), ultra skinny jeans on skinny legs. Has an equally or more chapri girlfriend and constantly posts on every social media platform when, how, they are gonna get married. A chapri guy has to smoke weed listen to divine and most importantly he must get into fights with rival wannabe gangsters. " Chapri " is a very disturbing cultural usage. Where does it come from? Is it a recent term? Does it have base in any existing language (s)? I understand the meaning it tries to convey, but what I don't understand is why it is thrown around so casually and treated as if it's any different from, say, casteist slurs. Chapri originated as a casteist slur with origins in the word "chappar", a caste of roof menders and weavers. Chappar has its roots in kaccha houses or huts. The frequency and casual nature of its use never ceases to baffle me. People are often shunned for using other casteist "insults" and yet somehow this one got imbibed into tiktok shaming lingo
