Home / Aditya-L1 Mission : Completion of First Halo Orbit July 2, 2024 Today, Aditya - L1 spacecraft has completed its first halo orbit around the Sun-Earth L1 point. The Aditya-L1 mission is an Indian solar observatory at Lagrangian point L1 , launched on September 2, 2023 and was inserted in its targeted halo orbit on January 6, 2024. Aditya-L1 is India’s first space-based solar mission to study the Sun . It was launched on September 2, 2023, by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) into a halo orbit around the Sun-Earth Lagrange point 1 (L1). Aditya - L1 is the very first Indian planetary mission , which ISRO is carrying out to study the Sun, especially concerning the outermost layers, that is, the photosphere, chromosphere, and corona. Put at the L1 Lagrange point between Earth and the Sun, Aditya - L1 endeavors to deepen our understanding of solar activities and their bearing on space weather. The suit of Aditya L1 payloads are expected to provide most crucial information to understand the problems of coronal heating, Coronal Mass Ejection, pre-flare and flare activities, and their characteristics, dynamics of space weather, study of the propagation of particles, and fields in the interplanetary medium etc.
